Jenaisya Moore (OSU) is also in the Portal now. Her performance vs. PSU in Columbus back in October... incredible arm.

Jenaisya Moore (OSU) is also in the Portal now. Her performance vs. PSU in Columbus back in October... incredible arm. Basically, OSU's entire senior class is in the Portal. Having said that, I'm quite sure there isn't any scandal there -- it's a simple numbers game. In planning ahead for recruiting, no coach planned for all players on the roster in 2020 getting an extra Covid year of eligibility. When that happened, coaches were in a bind. OSU has five freshmen coming in 2023 (I don't know that all five will be on scholarship, but they may be). Not enough scholarships to go around. So this year's senior class has had to look elsewhere (some of them might have anyway, given that many people look to go to a different institution for graduate school). |

The Portal closes in a couple of weeks in terms of SAs entering the Portal (there's a second window of a couple of weeks in mid-May, as well), but they don't need to make their decisions at that point. So decisions can be made all the way up to the last point at which they can enroll at a particular school and be eligible for the 2023 season. |

It's being said that Minnesota MB Carter Booth is in the Portal! Her dad is Penn State Basketball alum Calvin Booth and her younger brother Carey is a Penn State Basketball Commit (c/o 2023).
She's 6-7, was B1G 1st Team, BIG All-Freshmen Team, AVCA North Region FOY, and ranked 10th nationally in blocks per set this season. If it's true that she's in the Portal, hopefully with her PSU connections she gives Penn State a consideration!
(Though perhaps she wants to forge her own distinct path and for that reason wouldn't consider PSU.)

Wow -- the statement they put out comes off as very cold. I'm not sure I would want to work for an AD who can't acknowledge the good things a long time coach did for you, even if you felt the time was right not to renew their contract. One time years ago during an NCAA tournament, PSU played Michigan in an early round, and I sat close to the net. PSU's men's team was there sitting right next to me, and they started heckling the Michigan women during warmups. Rosen came right over and put himself between our guys and his players. One of the guys said something a bit over the line, and Rosen laid into him in an entirely appropriate way. I have always respected him since then -- he really stood up for his team in a way I hope all coaches would, but I saw him do it firsthand. It wasn't the most shining moment for a PSU men's player who I otherwise liked, too. |
