I remember how frustrated we fans were when Ali Frantti became a 6 rotation player at PSU - she often struggled with serve receive and it affected her hitting efficiency. Her massive improvement in both of these categories was evident against Germany as she was the top point scorer for USA and credited with the most successful receptions. She also had 8 digs. Part of Ali's issue at Penn State was she was constantly fighting injury. She was never really 100%. Now she is. |

Perhaps, in addition to increased self belief, she has also learned how to take best care of herself. But she clearly has all the skills needed for this level of competition. |

Curious what we mean by substitute. Micha played briefly against Japan. I have been a little surprised by setter choices in this tournament. In the past, Kiraly has rotated setters a lot even using double subs as a standard tactic. But Micha has carried almost the entire the load in this iteration. The result to my untutored eyes is that the team plays better with her than Carlini. It sure seems like Micha has to be the choice for knockouts. |
