Impressive match by USA against Canada. Won in 3 25-19, 26-24, 25-15. Block came on as the match progressed. US 8 blocks & CAN 3. US 7 aces to CAN's 2. Marked diff in server receive. US with their 'good' receives in the 60's and CAN's in the 40's. Franti again lead the US with 14 kills and Drews next with 11. Nice to see good serve receive by the US. That's what I was worried most about. Especially as the US had the top 3 receivers in the Olympics but now Larson and Barsch-Hackley, 2 of the 3 receivers gone. Robinson-Cook & Franti doing a pretty good job replacing them. CHiaka Ogbogu is doing a good job in the middle, both blocking and hitting.
P.S. Sure, the US should beat CAN, but nice to see them come out and do it in a very workman like fashion. Plus, when CAN made a run, US had the answer every time.

Washington had a poor game, but I'm sure she'll rebound quickly.
Frantti was an absolute beast out there; she's really becoming THAT player for USA.

Wshington had a poor game, but I'm sure she'll rebound quickly. Frantti was an absolute beast out there; she's really becoming THAT player for USA. I'm still in somewhat disbelief regarding Frantti. What I remember from her PSU days was a so-so passer and a decent hitter; not great but decent. I also thought that Simone Lee in her senior year was better than Franti. BUT, from what I've seen so far, like you say, she's a beast. She's improved so much it's unreal. Frankly, she seems to me to be doing better hitting than Larson did in the Olympics. That's not taking anything away from Larson as Larson's overall contributions were off the charts. Granted, it's still early days, but so far she's looking wonderful. She's doing better than Drews, tho it's hard for me to be sure about that without looking at any hitting percentages/errors et all. In the Olympics, the US team was on the coattails of Thompson/Drews. Now we also have a fabulous left OH; assuming of course, that Franti can continue her good hitting against the top echelon teams.
I'm sure I've said this before, but I HATE the international stats. Showing how many points someone has is nice, but I see someone like Emily Londot (OH), who had 17 kills (points) against NEB. But the rest of the story is she had 17 errors. She hit 17-17-60, with a .000 hitting percentage.

In light of her advances over the last year, we've discussed before Frantti's meteoric rise as a freshman (natl freshman of the year IIRC) followed by good but not great performance thereafter. And she didn't seem to take any joy in the endeavor. And fast forwarded to last year -- photos and video of a changed player looking so much more engaged with other players, pumped up, reacting with joy, etc. I wished her well in my mind when she went to play professionally but I was way surprised but delighted to see her on this stage.
BTW, I was thinking about Lee just today. I have recollections of her being subbed in with the hope that she'd spark a comeback in a number of matches. IIRC she had moments but a lot of inconsistency. Coach always had faith in her, though. As a starter in her junior year (again IIRC) she. just. took. off.

Haleigh and Ali were long-time roommates at PSU. It's great to see them together on the world stage!

Before a B1G season opener v WI one year, there was a sort of documentary that ?ESPN? did; included Haleigh and Ali cooking together, and Kendall and Megan doing their practicum at a senior facility. Great stuff!

Haleigh and Ali were long-time roommates at PSU. It's great to see them together on the world stage! Thanks for the reminder! I'd totally forgotten about Haleigh & Ali being roommates at PSU. It must be wonderful for the two of them to be reunited on the national team! And traveler, thanks for mentioning Frantti’s new lease on life. It's wonderful to see how much she is enjoying playing right now. Great to see. Franti was certainly not one of the players that I thought might be one of USA's OH's replacing the old guard. I remember seeing the program on ESPN abut the PSU team, Ali & Haleigh in particular.
