Thanks dc155 for reviving this thread. I almost got on several times to check in on psuphdstudent but ultimately didn't. I will be in State College this weekend volunteering at the Olympic Wrestling Team Trials. But I just learned that my volunteer credentials don't give me access to the venue beyond my volunteer shifts, so I'll try to catch the PSU semi at least and maybe the final depending on the game time. My Saturday volunteer shift ends at 2:00 so I plan to cancel my hotel reservation for that night and head home to the suburbs of NYC since I can't watch the wrestling--which is to say I am not going on StubHub or the like to buy a ticket to an event I am volunteering for. I hope you have safe travels to State College this weekend, and enjoy volunteering as well as being in town! Too bad the Olympic Trials couldn't give volunteers special access... that would have been really nice! Thanks--and now I realize I can also see the WVB scrimmage with Pitt while I am in town. |

Started pretty dicey and ended pretty dicey too. The team likes to match their opponents’ level this season. Gave a 2-7 lead at the start and had to climb back from 20-24 to win the first. Had multiple chances to take the match in the 3rd and 4th and took the match on their 7th match point.
Hopefully the rest they have tomorrow will let them shake off the rust and come in hot against Mason.
Mason is a much better defensive team than Harvard. Mason has two big scorers to look out for Omar Hoyos and Jack Bolz. Hoyos is their best hitter and server, can be a bit streaky but when he is hot, he is very dangerous. Bolz is a little odd; tall lefty. His approach seems slow but his hit can pack a punch. Pretty smart with his shots. Hits a pretty nasty sharp cross court. The Libero is very good too. Kind of a hothead but excellent passer and defender.
