I'm pumped up. The week can't go by fast enough. But starting out on the road against a good team is not such a good idea IMO. Give me one cupcake to get the team gelled before embarking on a brutal schedule.

Unfortunately, I'll be watching the game after the fact as I have a prior engagement on Friday night.
I think the team this year is in pretty good shape at the beginning of the season. Just about all of the team has been together since Jan, (Izzy was here then), and they also had the European tour, (as well as the two matches against Pitt), so that they've played a fair number of games as opposed to just practicing. This is the most IMHO, that a PSU team that has major personal change, has been together at the beginning of the season for quite a few years.
I'm quite interested in a number of things: - to see how Izzy S. does coming in as a freshman, (especially since the setting last year was a bit of a disappointment). She supposedly will be really good, but I tend to wonder a bit until the season actually starts.
- how the opposite does (assuming that that will be Caroline J.) - how the new middle will do (assuming that is Maggie Mendelson, tho Jordan Hopp could be there as well).
- what the back court personal will be like. Grimes should be the libero, but Ava Falduto has quite a big rep coming in. Some people think that she will give Grimes a run for the libero spot. However it turns out, PSU should have some really good defense this year.
Be interesting to see who's in the starting lineup.
I really wish that we could have had some info on how the European tour went. Oh well.
Edit: Also wondering what the connection will be between Izzy S. and the middles. Last year the middle production went down because the connection with the setter wasn't great. Really hope that the middle connection is better this year. Interestingly enough, the US senior national team has had problems in the past with middle connections. It seems that that problem can crop up at just about any level.

Really excited to see how this season goes! From a roster standpoint I believe this is probably KSC’s strongest so far. I actually like the fact they are having a tough schedule to start the season off. It of course helps to have “easier” matchups to get the flow and connections going, but in my opinion, nothing tests you more than being thrown into the fire. And I believe playing these top 25 teams early will pay off in the long run for the tougher conference matches and once post season comes around.
This may be a biased (being an overly optimistic fan) opinion but I do feel like Izzy is/will be one of the top setters in the nation based on what I’ve seen so far from her. And from the various interview responses I’ve heard from the team so far I believe they are ready to make a championship run in all aspects. Of course there will be a learning curve but I do think the amount of time this team has had together will help iron out the typical beginning of the season pains.
Really hoping to see some newer faces hit to court a little more this season like Nathan and Willow. Also hoping Penn State will utilize the depth and versatility this team has to offer.

I’ll be driving down to Knoxville and then up to Philly for the first two matches of the season. If anyone has food or sightseeing recommendations for either city, I’d love to hear them, as I’ve never been to Tennessee before. Should be a fun weekend of volleyball!
