The denizens of that other board are all in a tizzy over Micha having been chosen and Carlini having been left off the starting 12. Congrats to Micha and Haleigh -- great for them!!! Feel bad for Megan Courtney -- she is an amazing player.

Talented outside hitter Caitlyn Newton will be back for Purdue this fall.

Feel bad for Megan Courtney -- she is an amazing player. I was pulling for Courtney, but the writing has been on the wall since the beginning of VNL. With only one L going to Tokyo, it wasn't going to be Megan. Stoked for Washington and Hancock, though. Gotta be honest, I'm so glad Cheesehead Jesus won't be going to Tokyo.

Happy for Hancock and Washington. It sucks for courntney but I don’t think she’s done and I have a feeling when she hangs it up as player if she chooses to coach she will excel in that. VT is crazy. I really don’t think there was any huge gap between the three setters. Any two of the three would have been fine. They have their reasons for why the chose who they did. It’s just funny cause I literally think they’re many Carlini groupies on VT. Lol

Picking the twelve-person team must be a difficult set of decisions. Certainly all of the women on the United States VNL team are world-class players. I have sympathy for all of those who were not chosen. That includes Lauren Carlini.
The usual noise on Volley Talk is to the discredit of those who participate. I am particularly dismayed that "Happy Volley" is such a stain on Penn State fans.

I do feel sad for Carlini about all the blood, sweat, and tears she has put into training with the National team over many years. Reality for Olympic hopefuls can be tough. Volleyballmag.com has an article stating the six alternates will travel with the team to Japan. If true I believe that is a departure from previous years.
I'm living in ignorant bliss by not looking at that other volleyball message board. As soon as I saw the final 12 roster I knew there would be a lot of insults. I would guess some "experts" (who didn't see any practices) are probably saying Karch doesn't know what he is doing.
Go USA.

Marquette already released its fall schedule. Perhaps other teams will start to follow suit in the near future. The Golden Eagles will play Wisconsin, so expect Penn State and other Big Ten teams to have non-conference matches again.

Wisconsin is the latest Big Ten school to announce an NIL program for its student-athletes.

Meanwhile, Penn State, waiting for you to offer something more than nil for NIL.

Hmmmm. B1Gten.org: "there are no events in this date range"
This would be quite a departure from form...where each of the 14 teams posted whenever they darn well felt like it.. lol.

So true. Well said! This brings back a memory of an ESPN extravaganza w/a half-hour documentary on the PSU and W teams before a match. They focused a lot on Courtney and Carlini. Courtney and Pierce were working with senior citizens doing recreational therapy with a very receptive group of seniors in an assisted care facility. Carlini was on her bed setting under an Olympic flag she had had on her ceiling since girlhood. It struck me how differently the idea of student athlete applied and how they defined themselves. Yet, there they both are on the bus, not on the bench. Food for thought.
