It would be interesting to see what percentage of the time Penn State attacked from the back row against LSU.

Who was he referring too? I don't have a particular team in mind, but I would guess that it would be a team that doesn't have 5 hitters that they can depend on, so they need backrow hitter(s) in certain rotations to even out their offense. This would eliminate Texas and Wisconsin, as they have 4-5 hitters around that can produce points.

My interpretation was it was a generic comment about the importance of DI college teams nowadays to be able to hit out of the back row.

But why be specific and prompt a real convo when you can be the Oracle of Omaha and get everybody talking?

After beating Nebraska, Utah loses 3-1 to Boise State today. The ultimate trap game.

After beating Nebraska, Utah loses 3-1 to Boise State today. The ultimate trap game. Clearly, Boise State is better than Nebraska The old associative rule in volleyball. If team A beats team B and team B beats team C, then team A is better than and should beat team C. But somehow, it frequently doesn't turn out that way. Pretty funny, especially when you have the Nebraska/Utah/Boise State combo. I'm really surprised that Utah beat Nebraska. I didn't see the game, but I've seen Utah in a previous game and wasn't impressed. (To be fair, I don't know the situation for Utah in their previous game or of Nebraska's situation in this game.) There were many situations in oos balls for Utah where the balls were just bumped over and no attack attempt was made. I know, that will happen to every team at some point in time, but for Utah it seemed to be the norm. Also some balls that weren't totally out-of-system, (if such a thing exists ), the Utah hitter was not available for an attack when they had plenty of time to get into position. Shows what I know. I think I now qualify to be a voter on the AVCA poll.

But why be specific and prompt a real convo when you can be the Oracle of Omaha and get everybody talking? What!!! Are you knocking my favorite commentator on volleyball??? (Terry Pettit). Not serious; but I really do like his blog on volleyball. It's no longer being updated but has been superseded by another column. He's not a big fan of the 6-2 and has a good article about the 2017 PSU loss to Nebraska in the NCAA semi's (I think) where PSU was running a 6-2. A comment he made about that game was why didn't PSU go to Washington near the end of the 4th set when she was hitting close to .500. That is one of the losses that preys on my mind; along with the loss to Oregon in 2012 when Micha (see, I got the spelling right again!!!), sprained her ankle and came back a shadow of herself. He says the 6-2 suffers the same problem as the turbo-prop; too many moving parts. My favorite quote of his about the 6-2 is; "The setter in the 6-2 has the same leadership capability as the pusher in a two-man bobsled." He has such a way with words and can be very funny; not unlike Russ, even tho he might be cryptic upon occasion. Back to the 2012 loss to Oregon; I've always wondered why Russ didn't put in Kristen Carpenter for longer than a few plays; not enough time to get her rhythm. I have come to the conclusion that Carpenter hadn't been practicing very well at setter and so he had no confidence that she would come in and do well. My brother, a big PSU fan, and I have talked about that numerous times. One of those questions that I'm sure we'll never get an answer to. Russ would be in effect throwing Kristen under the bus, and how could he do that to a former cigar-smoking buddy? (Not sure if she was or not; Am sure that Lacey Fuller was, (a cigar-smoking buddy that is.)

OK. I'll try to ignore that Petit has ever had anything to do with NE or its corruption, and say so far this conference season this looks like the truest of statements.

Sorry if already posted: In the Washington @ Washington State match today, one Washington beat the other Washington in a set by the score of 46-44. That's really two full sets. I thought it was a football score -- a high scoring football score. Here's a link to the stats: stats.statbroadcast.com/mobile/?id=363195

Yes. The highly ranked (#6 for a few more hours) UW lost to unranked WSU in 5, including that crazy set 4. I think it's in record territory but not sure how close. UW also lost to #15 Utah which in turn lost to #24 CO. Tomorrow is moving day.
