Minnesota and Wisconsin are playing better now than when Penn State played them earlier. Both recently beat Nebraska, which is also playing well. Can we honestly say that PSU is improving? We all agree on the inconsistency. Very telling comment by Coach Rose, that at this point in the season, the players dont listen to the coach.
I know that we all have great enthusiasm for PSU. I am just saying what I am seeing. What PSU team in recent years that got to the Final Four has played this up and down?

I really like these Q&A's. You did another one with another person called Talking Head or something like that in the past, who I think has some very nice comments. All of them are very informative. Thanks.

Minn. has the advantage at setter and libero. I am a devoted fan of our team but I think Minn. is better this season. Is that advantage that you believe significant enough to create a problem for this match? Santana = Courtney (Megan hasn't been sharp lately but she always rises up to big matches. Frantti > Wilhite/Goehner in every skill Washington > Hannah Tapp Whitney > Paige Tapp Lee slight > Lohman Rose > McCutcheon Away > Home Recent play? < Minn I agree with all the above except I'd say Russ Rose is equal to McCutcheon. When it comes to tactical planning and lineup changes McCutcheon is one of the best. He's won a gold and silver medal with the national teams, and although Russ has won 7 National Championships, success at the collegiate level is significantly impacted by recruiting, I believe. It just seems to me that Russ takes too long to make the tactical changes in a match at times.

I wouldn't be surprised by a Minnesota sweep. No weakness on that team. They pass great, they serve tough, they're good in transition, their offense is super fast and produces lots of single block opportunities, and like PSU they have great hitting middles so you really can't just focus on Santana. At the same time, PSU has had the kind of schedule the last couple weeks that the coaches could probably devote some time to preparing for Minnesota. So maybe Rose and Rockwell can find some cracks in the armor, we'll find out... If PSU's problem is only intensity and focus, they may be OK because they'll be focused for a match of this quality. I'm actually worried more about the matchups. That Minnesota team is one of the deepest and most talented Big Ten teams I've seen in a long time. They actually have the horses to line up against PSU pretty well. Every single point is going to be a battle with them and if PSU gets ahead and relaxes for a second, they'll lose it. Guaranteed that's not going to happen. Not with this Penn State team. They are way too scrappy and MN is not that dominant. Yes, MN has been playing well and their setter is doing a phenomenal job, but Penn State has only 2 losses for a reason. And really both losses came after a mental lapse in the later sets against both teams. Courtney and Frantti are the keys. If they play well, MN has no chance, PSU takes this in 4. However, if they play below par, then MN could win this one in 4 or 5.

However, they seem to "bring it" when they play in big games, which this definitely is.

Coach does have his habits but I don't think McCutcheon is at his level.

Nyline's historical recall is fabulous. Didn't the 2010 team play well after that?

PSUMAUI has it on his site.

It'll be interesting to see if we get a tactical battle going on.

I hope the abundant optimism you all have for the PSU 2015 team is borne out on Saturday.

I hope the abundant optimism you all have for the PSU 2015 team is borne out on Saturday. I think they win in 4 or 5, but I could easily see them lose in 4 or 5. I don't think either team sweeps. I wouldn't call my mental state abundantly optimistic. More hopefully apprehensive.

I feel nervous about this game. Minnesota should certainly have the "something to prove" factor working for them.
I'm not sure how to characterize it, but PSU seems to be missing that sixth sense that other PSU teams seem to have had--when the opponents made a tip, and someone always seemed to be there waiting to make the pass. Like most teams, PSU does best when they dictate the flow of the game. As other posters have observed, they struggle when the other team passes well.
I've also noted that Coach Rose seems reticent about calling time in order to adjust. Not sure if it's stubbornness or his wanting the team to figure their own way out of a jam, or a combination. Calling time certainly doesn't encourage self-reliance. But hoping for something to happen when it often hasn't... Let's hope for a performance like those against Stanford and Wisconsin.

I hope the abundant optimism you all have for the PSU 2015 team is borne out on Saturday. Here's what one MN fan had to say on VolleyTalk: If MN can pass the ball and play up to its regular level of defense, then this will be a hell of a match. Hope Santana can come on strong. If not, Penn State sweeps. Unfortunately, MN passing and ball control has taken a distinct dive as of late, which is concerning. Not sure all MN fans have faith in their team pulling a win out vs PSU.

They're just lulling us into a false sense of security.

It's ironic that they worry about some of the same failings that concern us about our team. I'm glad I have BTN2GO, but I wish it was carried on a "regular broadcast. "
