Do you mean emotionally or bad in their play? emotionally. Weiskircher was crying at the huddle.

It was so sad seeing Washington cringing on one of the net plays near the end of the match. The 2011 team had a lot more fight. Maybe by the end of the season, this team will look like the 2011 team statistically, which was probably the worst in the last decade.

Sometimes one weak link can make everyone around you play poor, and vice-versa, they say one good/strong player can make all the others around them play better. So yes, I think one excellent libero can make a load of difference. Look at Minnesota, they got a top ranked freshman setter and they're playing like a new team vs last year, even though they have the same hitters and middles. My only fear is, who will replace Courtney? And who will replace Aiyana? Unless Nia Reed makes a big improvement (not saying that isn't possible), there is no front row player with the athleticism of Whitney. And they really don't have anyone to replace Megan (although Frantti appears to have improved her six-rotation game). I don't know that Novakovic will be that player. We'll see next season. I expect some sophomores or freshman will step it up; they know positions will be opening so they will need to work extra hard in the off season. I'm hoping Thelen can improve her hitting; she would be ideal if she can improve her offense to complement her defensive prowess.

What do YOU think? 1) B10 WVB is just so competitive no one can win ‘em all. 2) The refs are blind and prejudiced. 3) Magen hasn’t been the same since her injury. 4) Just plain bad luck. OR This team is good, but not great, talented, but sloppy, distracted, and very beatable. Their power/kill shots have disappeared. Long term, finesse shots are effective only as changeups, not as bread & butter. They’re out of system and confused a lot (just like their opponents used to be). I could not finish watching this match. Oh well. See yawl next season. 1. We know the B1G is very, very competitive. That doesn't explain tonight's loss at home. 2. The refs had nothing significant to do with tonight's loss. 3. Megan blocked very well in set one. There may be lingering effects of her injury, but that doesn't explain the play of everyone else. 4. Luck's got nothing to do with it.
and --
This team is good, but not great. It does appear to play sloppily and to be distracted at times. It certainly has been definitely beatable on four occasions. Frantti and Courtney have not been the terminators that they were last season -- particularly last season in the NCAAs. They do appear to be confused far too often -- people lunging for balls, running into each other. That's communication and leadership (he says with the vast volleyball knowledge accumulated through zero years of playing and coaching the sport).

PSU's been bringing in waves of back row players the last few years. Do you think the ones coming in next year will do the trick? Sometimes one weak link can make everyone around you play poor, and vice-versa, they say one good/strong player can make all the others around them play better. So yes, I think one excellent libero can make a load of difference. Look at Minnesota, they got a top ranked freshman setter and they're playing like a new team vs last year, even though they have the same hitters and middles. My only fear is, who will replace Courtney? I don't think you're trying to lay the responsibilities for this on one player. I know I can't isolate one player. To me, it looks like a team effort. The cohesiveness they had early in the season--against Stanford and Wisconsin, is but a memory. I think Rose's expression during the timeouts speaks volumes. He's not losing it. It seems as if he's saying" "This is what happens when you don't do what I say." Or even worse, he's realized they don't have "it" and he's not getting upset. That would be cruel.

Do you mean emotionally or bad in their play? emotionally. Weiskircher was crying at the huddle. I know these losses hurt. Heck we as fans hurt and we don't put in all the work, well except maybe Nyline and Psumaui (who have probably spent many a night preparing nice articles and videos for us all to enjoy). Shout out to all the people who help run and FUND this forum and website.

Yes, let's stress one season at a time. Too much to digest right now.

I think that may come very close to what's going on. One thing, though, Rose will have already put this one behind him -- other than to take from it the things that each player needs to work on. I doubt he ever dwells on a loss except as a tool for learning how he and his staff can do better and how his players can improve.

For the bottom portion, it seems PSU is sending over way too many free balls, because they cannot get into system, which is caused by poor serve-receive. That's it. The team is trying too hard to fix things and their play is not natural and flowing. It seems they are overthinking their movements. Although, I won't cash my coaching check until after our next win.

I see those of you who were very optimistic after the Minn match are starting to come back to reality. This year's PSU team has clearly regressed, very perplexing. Not an effective combination on the court for some weeks now, they have gotten by against lesser teams but not against the better teams in the conference. Sad for the seniors to see their careers end like this. Very possibly two more losses by end of season, seeded down around 10-12 in the tournament.

That might be August of next year.
