Lets hope it's a software glitch and not one of judgment. If this is true then I would say, an error in judgement or she has a beef with Penn State. FROM: Happyvolley on VT "I sent her an email, asking for her rationale. She replied that everyone is entitled to their opinion and if I don't like it, I am watching the wrong sport". When she is given a vote, there's a certain expectation that the vote is not simply a personal opinion, but to some degree, a reflection of logical thought process. For her to simply state that it's her opinion, when 63 other coaches made the reasonable choice, she should not be included in the future voting process. Even Russ voted for PSU as number 1 and he rarely does. If something like this happened in a popular sports, like football, she would be frilled to death by everyone. When No. 1 beats No. 2 team soundly as PSU did to Stanford, you cannot hide behind "it's my opinion" excuse.

She replied that everyone is entitled to their opinion and if I don't like it, I am watching the wrong sport". Maybe she's trying for some recruits in California. Maybe she's trying to draw attention to herself and her program. And maybe she has a beef, as many think. The Coaches' Poll has certainly provided her a platform. Anybody check who she picked last week? I do believe that this was the first week that the voting info was available.

You live there and have to deal with the fans day-to-day. I defer to you.
It must kill them that Coach Rose is leading in wins.
I'm going to put up the Iowa match on YT (unlisted) from this weekend and you will see a little of what I'm talking about but even watching on TV/video doesn't do it justice. Have to attend a match to see what opposing teams endure. Fans can make a huge difference in a match here, especially when there are 8K plus all rooting for Hawaii. When Hawaii get's behind a few points they loudly chant "LET's GO BOWS" over and over when opposing team is serving and the whole place rocks. As for killing them about Russ leading, I'm sure there are some that think that way but most respect Russ except maybe those few I spoke to you about on VT but I think it kills the mid-west(BTN) that Penn State keeps on top in the Women's Volleyball world because even though they put up his record before the match, I didn't see anything about being all time D1 wins leader. Hawaii always had that stat up before each match with Dave before Russ passed him. Did you see how BTN couldn't wait to leave after match was over and go to other programming even though there was plenty of time left in the 2 hour slot they allotted for this match. They even cut to commercial before the ending music was done. Did you notice that? Speaking of which, I think Bryanna just got robbed for not getting Setter of the week. I do catch the "not liking PSU much" vibe from the rest of the Big Ten. Audrey Flaugh seems to have really picked up that attitude. It was very apparent in the season-ending match at Nebraska in 2013. I particularly loved how Mike Wolf was happy to crow about how the "B1G" has won six of the last eight National Championships. Nevertheless, I think PSU gets considerable benefit from being part of the conference. Maybe, in another 30 years those attitudes will have disappeared.

I think we need to chill a little. Among all the voting coaches, i have to assume there's some sort of bias, some of it in our favor...inescapable. It's either allow for bias or let the programmers do the whole thing.
What i think we should be talking about is some of the very interesting stuff a little further down the page... I'm shocked at the number of 3- and 4-loss teams still in the top 25. And some of those losses were to unranked teams. FSU was the biggest surprise IMHO. I did notice EKY got bounced back out.
I think there's huge amounts of last-year's-team bias (among other sorts), and probably some laziness, although they did demote UNC and MichState.

Regarding Bryanna and setter of the week honors:
Good as she was v Stanford, she wasn't v Colorado. Setter of week requires two big efforts. I'm convinced it will come. One reason: even when she isn't producing like we'd like, she looks like one cool customer. i never saw doubt in her eyes all weekend.

Now that it's been mentioned, i have to agree: In broadcasting, I'd really like to see the bias reduced. I remember watching the first of the last 6 PSU championships where Karch demonstrated a total lack of familiarity w/PSU...but knew everything about the Stanford team down to the size of Foluke's goggles (I exaggerate only slightly). He seemed totally blindsided that there was volleyball east of the Rockies. He had a really hard time calling the game because he could not recognize the PSU players or add any color on them.
The one place the bias seems to disappear is on the BIG Women's show. the anchors there, some of whom have played for other teams or played other sports (but really, is there any other true DI women's sport???), have been more than fair and supportive to PSU. Just try finding the women's show...not an easy task.
That said, does anyone have an explanation for the crazy male sportscaster late in the 2014 season who at least three times called Megan Courtney by another name (not anyone on our team)? Cannot remember exactly which match...preceded OKC. I figured he either knew someone named Megan or someone named Courtney. Embarrassing. Why the producers couldn't solve that one was beyond me!!

Karch has a West Coast bias. I think he was still a little biased last year towards BYU at the start of the match. He did remark that PSU should have been a higher seed than #5 given their history in the tournament. However, given the number of former PSU players on the national team that bias has to be eroding. Crista Harmotto is the Captain of the NT. He must be salivating at the prospect of getting Haleigh Washington in 3 years.

I didn't start watching women's volleyball until the tail-end of the 2010 season. I've always found Karch to be pretty fair, but I don't share the experience of watching the 2008 matches in real time. I've watched a lot of the games on PSUMAUI's YouTube site, but didn't notice much about his or Beth Mowins' tone. And of course, by 2010, Kiraly had three years to get to know PSU volleyball.

Karch Kiraly published an article on 12/16/14 before the final four, and predicted that Penn State would take volleyball title No. 7. He has multiple PSU players on his national team. I believe he has plenty of respect for Russ Rose and the PSU teams.

I imagine most of the participants on this forum participate in. or at least look at, Volleytalk. This is not an endorsement.
Anyway, the swirl regarding the Bucknell coach's vote is starting to border on the ridiculous. Is anyone else embarrassed?

Based on some people's "opinion" in VT forum, I think PSU have to expect there's going to be a strong bias against them the rest of the way. Only way to lessen these people's "opinion" is to go and win another NC I guess

Do you know anything about Anna Allison and why she would give Stanford a #1 vote this week? I know she is Bucknell's Head coach. It could also be a glitch by AVCA as it was the other week when they tried to transfer votes to Excel. Well! I hope she feels real bad now!
North Carolina beat her Number 1 team!

They just had another bad day. I'm sure she still thinks they should be number #!
